El Campello
El Campello is a quaint little fishing Village just up the coast from Alicante, and has grown in a big way over the last few years since I have been living in El Campello. So many new apartments blocks have been built on the back of what were the golden yours for property developers in this region, but you can now see many apartments that have not been sold throughout El Campello.
Living in El Campello for me has been a real blessing, and I must say for anybody who wants to live without a car, El Campello is ideal. There are supermarkets dotted throughout the village, there are primary and secondary schools, a health centre and the Tram stops right in the centre of El Campello, which will get you to Alicante within 15 minutes.
There are also a variety of restaurants in El Campello from Indian, Chinese, Kebab and there are also a couple of excellent tapas bars. Beware of the restaurants down by the Campello beach which are often over priced, and poor quality. I would always recommend a restaurant and “Ximos” for tapas, which is located just above Mercadonna in the San Bartolome road.
The beach in El Campello is always packed with tourists in the Summer months, so you need to get up early to reserve a good spot by the shore line. There are also a couple of English bars/restaurants on the sea front of El Campello, which offer English style food and at quite reasonable prices.
The latest addition to El Campello is the central park, which is ideal for young children. Beware dog owners, as you won’t be made to feel welcome in El Campello, but I never said El Campello was perfect. There is a restaurant in the park, but you will need to brush up on some basic Spanish, as not many people speak English here.
El Campello is set to become a budding tourist town in the future, but they still have a long way to go when it comes to basic customer service in the local businesses. Even so, it is an ideal holiday location, and you can really have a enjoyable stay here in El Campello throughout the while year, due to the almost perfect all year round climate.
