Girona is a great place to visit on your first trip to Spain. It is a city of a quite a few attractions and hence is a good place in its own right. Some people just land up here because it is close to Barcelona. But if you are going to have a Spanish tour, you can easily spend your first day and night here.

The city has three museums for you to visit. There’s one on Art, one on Cinema and one on archeology. The Museu de Cinema is actually the only one of its kind in Spain. It is a recent development and features exhibits that date as far back as nineteen seventy.

Just these three museums can take an entire day to fully appreciate. Then there are vibrant squares in the city that are fascinating places to visit and sit at. There are fashionable cafes and bars all around these places so you can also enjoy a warm caf?nvironment while watching the world go by. The squares that are recommended for this are Pla?del la Independencia and Pla?del Vi. Pla?del Catedral is another great place for this.

If you intend heading for Barcelona then a handy way of getting there is to make use of a car hire Girona service. Girona Airport is about a one hundred kilometre drive from Spain. Drive time should be around one hour. Barcelona certainly does not have to be the extent of your travels however as there is much to see in and around Girona.

You can then go to the Cathedral which has the widest Gothic Nave in the whole of Europe measuring in at twenty three meters. It is a beautiful structure and is certainly worth a visit. The Cathedral can be reached only if you climb ninety steep steps. It is true 17th century baroque style architecture. The Cathedral itself dates way back to the 14th century and hence is a good mixture of Gothic, Roman and Catalan Baroque styles.

The Cathedral also houses a museum and a cloister. The Museum displays items that date from the 10th up to the 13th century which is absolutely remarkable and makes for an exciting visit.

Right beside the Cathedral is another excellent site ? the Passeig Archeologic. It is a beautiful set of gardens that are sure to mesmerize you at first sight.

Eglesia de Sant Feliu is another major cultural attraction that you must visit while you are in Girona. The Churches dates between the 14th and the 17th century and can be found on the Pujada de Sant Feliu. The church was built over something that was then believed to be the tomb of none other than Feliu of Africa.

So once you land in Girona, you will see that there’s actually a lot to do here. So take your time and enjoy this beautiful city.
